Four-Dimensional String/String Duality
We present supersymmetric soliton solutions of the four-dimensional heterotic
string corresponding to monopoles, strings and domain walls. These solutions
admit the interpretation of a fivebrane wrapped around , or
of the toroidally compactified dimensions and are arguably exact to all
orders in . The solitonic string solution exhibits an {\it
strong/weak coupling} duality which however corresponds to an {\it
target space} duality of the fundamental string.Comment: 14 page
The extremal black holes of N=4 supergravity from so(8,2+n) nilpotent orbits
We consider the stationary solutions of N=4 supergravity coupled to n vector
multiplets that define linear superpositions of non-interacting extremal black
holes. The most general solutions of this type are derived from the graded
decompositions of so(8,2+n) associated to its nilpotent orbits. We illustrate
the formalism by giving explicitly asymptotically Minkowski non-BPS solutions
of the most exotic class depending on 6+n harmonic functions.Comment: Corrected version for publication, references adde
Black holes and black strings of N=2, d=5 supergravity in the H-FGK formalism
We study general classes and properties of extremal and non-extremal static
black-hole solutions of N=2, d=5 supergravity coupled to vector multiplets
using the recently proposed H-FGK formalism, which we also extend to static
black strings. We explain how to determine the integration constants and
physical parameters of the black-hole and black-string solutions. We derive
some model-independent statements, including the transformation of non-extremal
flow equations to the form of those for the extremal flow. We apply our methods
to the construction of example solutions (among others a new extremal string
solution of heterotic string theory on K_3 \times S^1). In the cases where we
have calculated it explicitly, the product of areas of the inner and outer
horizon of a non-extremal solution coincides with the square of the
moduli-independent area of the horizon of the extremal solution with the same
charges.Comment: 33 pages. Revised version: references added. No other change
Duality covariant non-BPS first order systems
We study extremal black hole solutions to four dimensional N=2 supergravity
based on a cubic symmetric scalar manifold. Using the coset construction
available for these models, we define the first order flow equations implied by
the corresponding nilpotency conditions on the three-dimensional scalar momenta
for the composite non-BPS class of multi-centre black holes. As an application,
we directly solve these equations for the single-centre subclass, and write the
general solution in a manifestly duality covariant form. This includes all
single-centre under-rotating non-BPS solutions, as well as their
non-interacting multi-centre generalisations.Comment: 31 pages, v2: Discussion of the quadratic constraint clarified,

First-order flows and stabilisation equations for non-BPS extremal black holes
We derive a generalised form of flow equations for extremal static and
rotating non-BPS black holes in four-dimensional ungauged N = 2 supergravity
coupled to vector multiplets. For particular charge vectors, we give
stabilisation equations for the scalars, analogous to the BPS case, describing
full known solutions. Based on this, we propose a generic ansatz for the
stabilisation equations, which surprisingly includes ratios of harmonic
functions.Comment: 27 pages; v2: presentation improved and references added as in the

Champions, converts, doubters, and defectors: the impact of shifting perceptions on momentum for change
Maintaining momentum is a key influence on the ultimate success of large-scale change. In this paper, we develop theory to explain how stable vs. shifting change-supportive perceptions over time differentially influence the perceived momentum associated with goal-directed change (i.e., change-based momentum). We use cross-level polynomial regression and data obtained early and one year later within an organization implementing a lean manufacturing transformation to model changes in individual perceptions. Results suggest that momentum perceptions are higher for “Champions” (stable and high perceptions over time) as compared to “Converts” (increasing perceptions over time), but momentum perceptions are lower for “Defectors” (decreasing perceptions over time) as compared to “Doubters” (stable and low perceptions over time). We find that even if participants converge upon change-supportive perceptions later in the change process, early divergent perceptions influence subsequent momentum for the change. These findings highlight the important role of temporal shifts in perceptions for organizational change processes
All the timelike supersymmetric solutions of all ungauged d=4 supergravities
We determine the form of all timelike supersymmetric solutions of all N
greater or equal than 2, d=4 ungauged supergravities, for N less or equal than
4 coupled to vector supermultiplets, using the $Usp(n+1,n+1)-symmetric
formulation of Andrianopoli, D'Auria and Ferrara and the spinor-bilinears
method, while preserving the global symmetries of the theories all the way. As
previously conjectured in the literature, the supersymmetric solutions are
always associated to a truncation to an N=2 theory that may include
hypermultiplets, although fields which are eliminated in the truncations can
have non-trivial values, as is required by the preservation of the global
symmetry of the theories. The solutions are determined by a number of
independent functions, harmonic in transverse space, which is twice the number
of vector fields of the theory (n+1). The transverse space is flat if an only
if the would-be hyperscalars of the associated N=2 truncation are trivial.Comment: v3: Some changes in the introduction. Version to be published in JHE
State-space Manifold and Rotating Black Holes
We study a class of fluctuating higher dimensional black hole configurations
obtained in string theory/ -theory compactifications. We explore the
intrinsic Riemannian geometric nature of Gaussian fluctuations arising from the
Hessian of the coarse graining entropy, defined over an ensemble of brane
microstates. It has been shown that the state-space geometry spanned by the set
of invariant parameters is non-degenerate, regular and has a negative scalar
curvature for the rotating Myers-Perry black holes, Kaluza-Klein black holes,
supersymmetric black holes, - configurations and the
associated BMPV black holes. Interestingly, these solutions demonstrate that
the principal components of the state-space metric tensor admit a positive
definite form, while the off diagonal components do not. Furthermore, the ratio
of diagonal components weakens relatively faster than the off diagonal
components, and thus they swiftly come into an equilibrium statistical
configuration. Novel aspects of the scaling property suggest that the
brane-brane statistical pair correlation functions divulge an asymmetric
nature, in comparison with the others. This approach indicates that all above
configurations are effectively attractive and stable, on an arbitrary
hyper-surface of the state-space manifolds. It is nevertheless noticed that
there exists an intriguing relationship between non-ideal inter-brane
statistical interactions and phase transitions. The ramifications thus
described are consistent with the existing picture of the microscopic CFTs. We
conclude with an extended discussion of the implications of this work for the
physics of black holes in string theory.Comment: 44 pages, Keywords: Rotating Black Holes; State-space Geometry;

Quark-mass dependence in decays
We study the quark-mass dependence of decays, based on a
dispersion-theoretical framework. We rely on the quark-mass-dependent
scattering phase shift for the pion-pion -wave extracted from unitarized
chiral perturbation theory. The dispersive representation then takes into
account the final-state rescattering among all three pions. The described
formalism may be used as an extrapolation tool for lattice QCD calculations of
three-pion decays, for which can serve as a paradigm case.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures; v2: added two references, version published in
